Your 5 most frequently asked questions, answered.

You’ve entered #CC2017 – what next? We’ve answered your 5 most frequently asked questions below:

How is my start time determined for the Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge?

The seeding committee takes into account events you have participated in between September 2016 and August 2017, which are over 90km and timed by Racetec, in order to determine your seeding for the Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge. Seeding is the automatic process that puts cyclists of similar ability into the same starting group. It is done to ensure a safe event and to place cyclists with others against whom they can compete enjoyably and safely. Click here to view the Racetec calendar.

When will I know my start time and receive my race number?

Seeding will take place in October and your race number and start time will be sent to you via email. You will be required to collect your race number from Number Collection at the Ticketpro Dome, 16 – 18 November. Race numbers will not be couriered or posted.

How long do I have to finish the Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge?

It depends what time you start – there are 6 hours to complete the event, from the last start group of the day. There are enforced cut-off points at each Hydration Station. Cut off times can be found here.

How will I be timed?

The Cycle Challenge uses Racetec for timing which means that you will need a Racetec Timing Chip. One would have automatically be allocated to you when you entered online, should you not currently own one. This will be included in your race pack at Number Collection.

What kind of bike is allowed?

Any traditional bicycle or tandem bicycle that is not motorized. Recumbent bicycles are also allowed in certain categories. Time trial bikes are unfortunately not permitted.
